‘Preparing Today's Children for Tomorrow's Adventures’
Dunecht School is in the rural village of Dunecht, which is situated on the A944, approximately 13 miles west of Aberdeen. We provide education for children from primary one to seven. Nursery provision is provided at nearby Echt School or at other local pre-school groups and private nursery facilities. The school is co-educational and non-denominational and we currently have a roll of 41 pupils which comprises of a P1-4 class and a P5-7 class.
‘At Dunecht primary school we facilitate open, positive and supportive relationships where children and young people feel that their opinions are valued and that they are listened to. We promote a climate in which children feel safe and secure. All staff are sensitive and responsive to each and every young person’s wellbeing through the adoption of restorative practices and the development of emotional literacy. Young people at Dunecht strive to model behaviour which promotes effective learning and wellbeing within school and the community. Getting it right for every child is at the heart of everything that we do at Dunecht primary school.’
Extract from Dunecht School Curriculum Rationale
The original school building was constructed in 1928 and benefited from an extension in 2007 which added a general office, Head Teacher’s office, staff room and fourth classroom. In addition to this we have a large hall space for assemblies, school shows and PE, and a kitchen where meals are prepared daily.
Outdoors the school has tarred play area to the front and rear with lots of opportunity for play. With shelters available to allow for outdoor play and learning in all weathers. Play equipment and lines have been designed and installed to encourage imagination and cooperation in our learners. We also have a small garden onsite.
In addition to the school grounds we also benefit from a large playing field in the village which is just a short walk from the school, a field directly adjacent to the school for PE and recreation, and access to Dunecht Estate by agreement for further outdoor learning experiences. Our Forest School site is located on Dunecht Estate approximately one mile from the school building.
